A Yarn Tale
By CarlaK

So there was this beautiful yarn. A wool in a tweedy gold. It is just too beautiful to pass up. So the lady bought it. She took it home and put it in her stash to let it age a bit. What? Isn't that the reason we have stashes? To let the yarns age a bit? That’s my story and I'm sticking to it! So the yarn is aging. It aged for a year and the lady decided that maybe that color didn't really do anything for her. So she gives the yarn to a friend.

Into the new stash our yarn goes. Every time she goes through her stash she thinks she really should use it. The color is so beautiful. After 2 years she decides that maybe the yarn isn't quite as soft as she would like so she gives it to another knitting friend. (Have patience. We're getting there.)

This friend takes the yarn and since it really isn't her color she puts it in her stash till she decides what she could make from it. Six months later she buys a new house. Much smaller than her old house so she has to reduce her belongings. She can't bear to part with most of her stash but she has a friend who wears that color all the time. So our friendless yarn goes to yet another new stash.

Wait! No! Not to the stash. This knitter loves everything about the yarn. And she saw the perfect pattern for it just last week. She gets out her needles and starts swatching. A month later she walks into her knitting group in a drop dead gorgeous sweater. The tweedy gold sets off her coloring perfectly. It is finished on the bottom and ends of the belled sleeves with ruffles. Truly a masterpiece.

So if you have a yarn in your stash that you really like but just can’t seem to figure out what to make out of it perhaps it just hasn’t found it’s rightful home.
